The Education Centre, Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve

Knocksink Wood Education Centre

The Education Centre in Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve is situated just outside Enniskerry. The centre is open during office hours from Monday to Friday, and is open all year round. If there are staff in the building, the door will be open and if you are passing, you are welcome to come in and have a look at our displays.

Note: Car Park Closed

Please note that we are experiencing problems with subsidence on the road through the nature reserve to the car park. As a result, the barrier to the reserve is now closed. All visitors should park with care on the main road or further back in the village, and allow ten minutes to walk to the Education Centre. We apologise for this inconvenience.

The Education Programme

The Education Centre offers a varied programme. Most groups will be catered for in the list below, but we will try and accommodate other groups with other requirements.

Primary Schools

The primary schools programme focuses on nature awareness, with themed days for the various age groups. For junior and senior infants we offer Nature for Infants. First to fourth classes can choose between a Bug Safari, a Jungle Exploration, and Wildlife and Wilderness. Fifth and sixth classes may choose Take a Hike or a Habitats Day. All age groups may choose to do a more generic Nature Awareness day.

Secondary Schools

The secondary schools programme focuses on ecology for both leaving cert and junior cert students. All our programmes comply with the curriculum requirements. We also offer a Looking After The Great Outdoors programme for transition year students.

Senior Citizen Groups

Senior citizen groups are welcome to visit the Nature Reserve. They may avail of a lecture and/or a short guided walk.
