The 2009 events programme has now concluded for the season.

Events will start again in March 2010.

Places are limited on most events, so to be fair to everyone, we will only take bookings from two weeks before the event. The date that we take bookings from is listed with each event.

Unless otherwise specified, all walks start at 11am at the Education Centre in Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve. All events are free of charge.

Note: Car Park Closed

Please note that we are experiencing problems with subsidence on the road through the nature reserve to the car park. As a result, the barrier to the reserve is now closed. All visitors should park with care on the main road or further back in the village, and allow ten minutes to walk to the Education Centre. We apologise for this inconvenience.

Spring Events in Knocksink Wood

 

Woodland Walk

Saturday 7th March 2009

Explore Knocksink Wood with Education Centre Staff looking at the plants and evidence of animals that live there and the history of the woods. Participants should wear suitable footwear for venturing off track.

Aimed at adults but also suitable for older children with an interest in natural history. Not suitable for buggies. Meeting at 11 am in the Education Centre in Knocksink Wood. Booking is essential. Bookings taken from Friday 20th February only.

 

Conservation Walk

Saturday 28th March 2009

A one to two hour walk around Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve with Education Centre Staff who will discuss some of the conservation issues facing Knocksink Wood and other woodlands in Ireland. Participants should wear suitable footwear for venturing off track.

Aimed at adults but also suitable for older children with an interest in natural history. Not suitable for buggies. Meeting at 11 am in the Education Centre in Knocksink Wood. Booking is essential. To book, phone 01 2866609 (Mon - Fri).

 

Nature Walks in Knocksink

6th – 17th April 2009 (Easter)

Ever wondered why Knocksink Wood is a Nature Reserve? Drop into the Education Centre during the Easter Holidays and our Education staff shall be happy to take individuals or groups on a stroll of about an hour around the wood.

Participants should wear suitable footwear for venturing off track. There is no specific start time for these nature walks. For further information or to book a time, please phone 01 2866609

 

Bug Walk

Sunday 26th April 2009

Take a “safari” through the amazing world of bugs. Bring a jar with a lid to help examine some minibeasts. Much loved by children and adults alike.

Participants should wear suitable footwear for venturing off track. Booking is essential. Bookings taken from Thursday 9th April only.

Spring Clean In Knocksink wood

Saturday 25th April 2009

Volunteers are required for a spring clean of the Nature Reserve. The aim is to collect litter from the woods and also to clean up some of the illegal campsites that are dotted around the reserve. Meet at 11 a.m. at the Education Centre in Knocksink Wood. To help us plan this event we would appreciate if anyone hoping to attend could confirm their presence.

Summer Events in Knocksink Wood

 

Wildflower Walk

Saturday 9th May 2009

Learn to identify some of the wildflowers of Knocksink and discover a little about their ecology, folklore and history. Aimed at adults but also suitable for older children with an interest in natural history. Not suitable for buggies. Meeting at 11 am in the Education Centre in Knocksink Wood. Booking is essential. Bookings taken from Friday April 24th only.

Bat Walk

9.00pm Wednesday 20th May 2009

See, hear and learn about bats. Meet at the Education Centre of Knocksink Wood at dusk. Bring insect repellent and a torch. Booking is not required and all are welcome.

   

Family Tree Walk

Sunday 7th June 2009

This fun-filled family walk focuses on trees. Families can ‘meet’ the trees of Knocksink Wood via several fun activities. Participants should wear suitable footwear for venturing off track. Family friendly, although not suitable for buggies. Booking is essential. Bookings taken from Friday May 22nd only.

Tree Identification Walk

Saturday 20th June 2009
