Every year Wicklow Mountains National Park receives many requests from transition year students looking for work experience. Most of these cannot be facilitated due to the drain on staff resources. However, for one set week each year, we take on four transition year work experience students.
TY Week 2012 is now fully booked. However, we shall be compiling a cancellation list - please apply in the normal manner.
Monday 26th March to Friday 30th March 2012
Note: Please do not apply for TY Week if you cannot make these dates.
Provisionally, students on TY Week shall spend two and a half days working with the Conservation Rangers, two days working with the Education team, and a half day working with the Maintenance team. (Subject to staff availability.)
Students will be expected to meet at the National Park Headquarters in Kilafin (near Laragh) at 9:30 am each morning. From here, they shall be transported to their day’s work location by Park staff. Students shall be dropped back to the Park Headquarters for 5pm each afternoon. Note: Please do not apply for the TY Week if you cannot get to and from the National Park Headquarters each day.
Students must wear clothes suitable for working outside in all weathers. Students must also bring a packed lunch each day.
To apply, please contact Gillian Stewart, either by post to Wicklow Mountains National Park, Kilafin, Laragh, Co. Wicklow, or by email to gillian.stewart@ahg.gov.ie. In your application, please include your name, your postal address, email address, phone number and the name of your school.
Students that are offered a place on TY Week shall be requested to complete and return a consent form within two weeks of being offered a place. The consent form requests school insurance details and parental permission, and must be signed by a parent / guardian and by the TY teacher. Note: The onus is on the student to return this form to us by the date stated or their place shall be offered to someone else.
