Weather Beaten Holly in the Glenealo Valley
It is a tough tree that can survive the exposed conditions on the open mountains. The upper branches have been beaten sideways by the wind, and the lower branches have been eaten by wild goats, despite the thorns on the leaves. Wild birds will appreciate the berries in autumn and winter. By eating the berries they help to spread the seeds.
