Frost on Bracken

Frost on Bracken

This common invasive fern often takes over where land has been disturbed. Large areas of the hills are often seen covered in bracken, perhaps due to over-burning or over-grazing. Bracken dies back in the autumn leaving the dead brown plant standing, as in the image above. In spring, fresh new growth uncurls from the base.
